The Springfield Jr. Blues were officially eliminated from playoff contention on Friday night, suffering an 8-3 loss to the Coulee Region Chill.

The Chill got an early lead just 3 minutes into the game, but Springfield forward Brennan Blaszczak scored on assists from Patrick Smyth and Matt Long at 6 minutes 55 seconds into the first period to tie it 1-1, and Brandon Puricelli made it 2-1 on assists from Jordan Muzzillo and Matt Cassidy at 1:07 into the second.

But the Chill then scored five unanswered goals over the next two periods to take a 6-2 lead.

Springfield’s Long ended the onslaught with a goal assisted by Muzzillo and Spencer DenBeste at 13:27. But the Chill scored twice more to round out the scoring.

The Chill will host Springfield again at 7:05 p.m. Saturday. The same teams meet in a regular-season-ending series next Friday and Saturday at the Nelson Center, where Friday’s game begins at 7:05 p.m. and Saturday’s game starts at 6:05 p.m.
