Billet Families

Billet Families

The Springfield Jr. Blues, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are looking to add Billet Families for our upcoming season!

Billet Family is a term used in junior hockey to refer to housing families who have opened their homes, hearts, and kitchens to incoming players. Billet families provide a stable, caring, family environment that becomes “home away from home” for our players as they pursue their junior and collegiate hockey dreams.  Players come to Springfield from all over the United States and abroad to play for the Jr. Blues and we need families who will help facilitate the transition to a new city and environment.

Billet Families are the backbone of junior hockey and are essential to the functionality of each team throughout the junior hockey world. Families often forge life-long bonds with their players with many making trips to see each other after their time playing in Springfield is over.

Don’t just take our word for it, though, take a look at what our Billets, Players and Coaches have to say about becoming a Billet Family!

“I played in Springfield for two seasons and stayed with the Kahl family both years. I will be forever grateful for the Kahl’s support as a billet family. Without them, I would not have been able to reach the point where I am at now. We built a relationship that will last a lifetime and I see them as a second family!”
Caden Villegas (Union College, 2018-20)

“We have been a host family for the Springfield Jr.Blues for the past two seasons. We enjoy opening our home and providing a comfortable family environment for the players while they are away from home. They are great role models for our children and really become a part of the family in the short time they are here.  It has been a rewarding experience and we are looking forward to next season.”   “I was fortunate enough to live with multiple families here in Springfield, and truly felt a part of their family. From playing street hockey in the basement with my billet brothers to having family dinners: I am truly blessed for the opportunity they gave me and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I can’t thank them enough for all they have done for not only me but my family as a whole!”
The Patterson Family   Giovanni Carabelli (UMass-Boston, 2018-20)

“Our family has really loved being a billet family for Jr. Blues players! We knew it would be fun to attend games and spend time with the players and their families but we got so much more out of billeting than we ever expected. We are beyond grateful for the many different adventures we have had while supporting these players as they pursue their dreams. It is a unique opportunity to meet players from around the world and from every corner of the United States. This is such an important program to support within our community and something that has expanded our experiences and enriched our family.” – The Drea Family
