Jr. Blues Split with Soo

Nov 12, 2012

The Jr. Blues celebrated Veterans Day this past weekend by wearing special third jerseys and honoring veterans Saturday night. The home crowds saw two really good hockey games between two of the best teams the North Division has to offer.

The Jr. Blues kept their winning ways going Friday night by topping a very strong Soo team, 5-3.

Eric Rivard got the Soo Eagles on the board 8 minutes into the first. James McGing would tie the game at 1 less than 2 minutes later. Before the period was over, Nate Chasteen (pictured above) would score his first goal of the night to give the Jr. Blues a 2-1 lead going into the first intermission.

The Soo would score 2 goals less than 10 minutes into the second to take a 3-2 lead. However, 10 seconds after their third goal, Ryan Atkinson would lose a faceoff but win the battle for the puck and find McGing on the back door for his second of the evening, taking a 3-3 tie into the second intermission.

The third period was all Springfield. Jack Sloan would score his first goal and eventual game-winner, just over 2 minutes into the period. Chasteen would score his second of the night on a nice feed from Brett Skibba with less than 5 minutes to go to secure the victory.

Matt Leon made 30 saves in net for the Jr. Blues.

Saturday night, the Soo started the scoring just 48 seconds into the game Saturday night and never looked back. They would eventually add another goal in the first to make it a 2-0 lead at the first intermission. Nate Chasteen would cut the lead to 2-1 on a powerplay goal. Chasteen deflected an Alex Baskakov (pictured right) shot from the point, for his third goal on the weekend.

Before the break would hit, the Soo would add 2 more goals to make it 4-1. Alex Baskakov got his second goal of the season 13 minutes into the third period but it wouldn't be enough as the Soo would add 1 more for a 5-2 win.

Ryan Kellenberger made 46 saves in the loss.
