Springfield, Illinois – The Springfield Jr. Blues, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are pleased to announce that rookie forward Tyler Borgula has committed to play collegiate hockey for Quinnipiac University!

Borgula, a native of Livonia, MI, is in his first year in Springfield and has already made quite a splash. The Jimmy John’s Athlete of the Month for September currently ranks first on the Jr. Blues in points with 11 goals and 9 assists in 26 games.

“Tyler is a talented young player with a lot of potential and a great mind for the game,” said Head Coach Tyler Rennette. “Quinnipiac is getting a phenomenal player and an even better young man.”

Borgula grew up playing in the HoneyBaked organization but spent last season with the Compuware 16U AAA team where he registered some eye popping numbers. In 88 games last season he tallied 43 goals and 40 assists en route to an HPHL 16U Championship title.

“I am excited and proud to announce my commitment to play Division 1 hockey and further my education at Quinnipiac University! I would like to thank my family, friends, coaches, and teammates who have helped and supported me along the way! #GoBobcats,” said Borgula on Instagram.

Tyler joins James Callahan (Air Force) as the second player to commit to a NCAA program this season. In addition to Callahan, Mac Gadowsky (Army – West Point), Nikita Nikora (Dartmouth), Edvards Bergmanis (Alaska-Fairbanks), and Adyn Merrick (Northern Michigan) were all committed to programs prior to this season.

Congratulations, Tyler! We are proud of you for what you have accomplished and we look forward to seeing what you are able to do going forward!
