May 31, 2022

Springfield, Illinois – The Springfield Jr. Blues, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are pleased to announce that forward Tristan Shewchuk has announced his collegiate commitment to the College of St. Scholastica!

Shewchuk, originally from Saskatoon, SK, Canada, joined the Jr. Blues via the 2021 NAHL Draft when Head Coach Tyler Rennette selected him in the 2nd Round, 35th Overall. In 51 games played this season, ‘Shewy’ tallied 8 goals, 16 assists, and finished with a +4 rating as he was one of 11 players who appeared in 50+ games.

“Tristan is a very hard working player who can contribute in so many different ways,” said Coach Rennette. “St. Scholastica is getting a really good player and an even better young man. The only thing I wish I could change was having him play here another season.”

He came to Springfield after playing parts of four seasons in the SJHL, split nearly evenly between the Melville Millionaires and the Humboldt Broncos. In 113 appearances in the SJHL he tallied 45 goals, 42 assists, and 87 points. Combined with his time here in Springfield, Shewchuk finishes his junior hockey career with 164 games played, 53 goals, 58 assists, and 111 points.

Shewchuk becomes the eighth player from our 2021-22 roster to commit to a NCAA program, either Division 1 or 3. He joins Michael Valdez (Colorado College), Fisher Scott (Colorado College), Connor Smith (Union College), Hagen Moe (Bowling Green), Joey Dosan (Army-West Point), Ethan Roberts (St. Thomas), and Mac Gadowsky (Army-West Point).

Congratulations Tristan! We are excited to see what you are able to accomplish in college!
