Brainin Commits to St. Norbert College

Springfield, Illinois – The Springfield Jr. Blues, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are pleased to announce that forward Max Brainin has committed to play college hockey at St. Norbert College!

Brainin, 21, finished up his second season with the Jr. Blues and his third season of junior hockey overall. During the 2018-19 campaign Brainin put up 20 goals and 39 assists to set a new career high in points. His 59 points ranked third on the team and his +13 rating was ranked fourth. In 125 career NAHL games Brainin tallied 38 goals, 67 assists, and 113 penalty minutes. Max broke the 100 point plateau for his NAHL career this past season, one of four players to complete the task for the Jr. Blues.

“Max is a hard worker with a hard shot and can pass the puck well,” Jr. Blues head coach Tyler Rennette said. “He is a leader on and off the ice and we wish him the best of luck next season at St. Norbert’s.”

On Twitter Brainin announced his commitment by saying the following: “I am excited to announce my commitment to St. Norbert College! Thank you to everyone who’s supported and helped me along the process. I feel honored to receive this opportunity, and I can’t wait to get started!”

Max will join teammates Brendan Aird and Ben Schmidling at St. Norbert College as each player has committed this month. With Brainin’s commitment, he will become the 9th Jr. Blues alumnus to play for the Green Knights and the 15th player to have committed to play college hockey this season.

St. Norbert plays out of De Pere, Wisconsin and are members of the Midwest Conference. The Green Knights have won five Division III National Championships (most recently in 2018), have been National Runner-Up four times, have made 12 Frozen Four appearances, and have gone to the National Tournament 19 times since 1997.

Ben Schmidling Commits to St. Norbert College

Springfield, Illinois – The Springfield Jr. Blues, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are pleased to announce that forward Ben Schmidling has committed to play college hockey at St. Norbert College!

Schmidling, 21, completed his final year of junior hockey eligibility with the Jr. Blues after playing for the Janesville Jets and the Johnstown Tomahawks previously. In 60 games played this season for the Jr. Blues, Schmidling scored 37 goals and added 31 assists to finish with the 3rd most goals in the league. Overall in his three year NAHL career, Ben tallied 57 goals and 60 assists with a +28 rating.

“Ben was a leader on our team from the time he arrived in Springfield both on and off the ice,” Jr. Blues head coach Tyler Rennette said. “St. Norbert is getting a well rounded hockey player with a good scoring touch. We hope for nothing but the best for Ben next season.”

Ben will join teammate Brendan Aird who committed to St. Norbert this week as well. With Schmidling’s commitment, he will become the 8th Jr. Blues alumnus to play for the Green Knights and the 14th player to have committed to play college hockey this season.

Aird Commits to St. Norbert College

Springfield, Illinois – The Springfield Jr. Blues, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are pleased to announce that defenseman Brendan Aird has committed to play college hockey at St. Norbert College!

Aird, 20, played 26 games in Springfield to close out the 2018-19 season and compiled 2 goals and 9 assists in that time. Aird played parts of four seasons in the NAHL for the Janesville Jets, the Brookings Blizzard, and the Jr. Blues. In 156 career regular season and playoff games in the NAHL, Aird racked up 7 goals, 49 assists, and 80 penalty minutes.

“Brendan is a tremendous player with good feet and plenty of junior experience,” head coach Tyler Rennette said. “St. Norbert’s is getting a great person and athlete and we wish him the best of luck next season.”

The 5’11”, 185 lbs. Orland Park, IL native will join fellow Jr. Blues alumnus Chase Mickelson at St. Norbert. Aird will become the 7th Jr. Blues to play for the Green Knights and is the 13th current or former Jr. Blues player to make a collegiate commitment this season.
