Springfield Wins In Shootout, Finish 3-1 At NAHL Showcase

The Springfield Jr. Blues beat the Austin Bruins, 4-3, in a shootout to win its final game at the North American Hockey League Showcase Saturday afternoon.

Springfield’s Jordan Muzzillo tied the score at 1-1 in the first period off assists from Cole Lawrence and Bradley Marek.

Second-period goals by Ethan Stewart and Fletcher Fineman put Springfield ahead 3-1. Stewart’s goal was assisted by Fabio Hollenstein and Nikita Kozyrev. Fineman’s power-play goal was his third goal this season. Max Brainin and Hollenstein assisted.

Austin tied the game 3-3 with two goals in the third period. After a scoreless overtime, Aiden Beck had the decisive goal in the shootout.

Springfield Jr. Blues goalkeeper Jurja Ovecka made 34 saves on 37 shots. Springfield attempted 40 shots on goal. In his first 3 games, Ovecka posted 3 wins with a 1.65 goals against average and a .954 save percentage.

Springfield will be at home this weekend on Friday and Saturday against the Kenai River Brown Bears. Friday puck drops at 7:05pm and Saturday 6:05pm.
