Springfield Unable to Gain Ground in Overtime Loss to Chill

The Springfield Jr. Blues were able to tie the game on 3 separate occasions Saturday night, but were unable to come away with the deciding goal in overtime, falling to the Coulee Region Chill 4-3.

The Chill got out to a 1-0 lead early in the first period, but Springfield forward Aiden Beck tied it 1-1 on assists from Ryan Leibold and Christian Simeone at 2:16 into the second period. Coulee Region answered with a goal at the 9:47 mark to make it 2-1.

Springfield’s Jordan Muzzillo tied it 2-2 on a power-play goal assisted by Matt Cassidy and Spencer DenBeste at 8:46 into the third period. But the Chill regained the lead less than a minute later on a goal by Caleb Schroer.

Springfield’s Zachary Tyson scored on assists from Alex Peck and Patrick Smyth to tie the score 3-3 at 9:59 into the third period Saturday, and it stayed that way through the end of regulation.

Coulee Region scored with 1:40 left in overtime to walk out with the victory.

Springfield goaltender Jordan Greenfield-Flemon was in net, stopping 41 of 45 Coulee Region shots.

The overtime loss now has Springfield in 5th place in the NAHL Midwest Division and 4 points behind the Chill. Springfield and Coulee Region still play each other 4 more times before the end of the regular season.
