Springfield Tops St. Louis 3-2 in Preseason Opener

Sep 2, 2019

Springfield, Illions – The 2019-20 North American Hockey League (NAHL) season doesn’t officially begin for another couple of weeks, but the Springfield Jr. Blues kicked off their 2019 preseason schedule with a 3-2 victory over the St. Louis Jr. Blues (NA3HL) on Saturday night. Cam Wuesthoff, Max Osborne, and Reese Tambellini each scored for Springfield, while Henry Graham and Alex Proctor combined to allow just two goals on the evening.

Wuesthoff, who is from St. Louis, opened the scoring late in the 1st period on a feed from Tambellini. Osborne would add to that total with less than :28 left in the frame and Springfield would take a 2-1 advantage into the intermission.

St. Louis would knot the game up 2-2 in the 2nd, but that would be all the offense from either side during the period. In the final and decisive period, Tambellini would pick up his second point of the game when he scored the game winning goal on a pass from Aaron Shaw, who had two assists in the game.

For St. Louis, it was an opportunity to bring down a Tier II hockey club, and they came up just short. For Springfield, it was a chance to get a glimpse of the new players and see how they will fit in with the team for this season.
