Springfield Secures Sweep With 4-1 Victory

The Springfield Jr. Blues put on a show for the 1,846 fans in attendance on Saturday night at The Nelson Center. Springfield erupted for 3 third period goals and picked up a 4-1 victory and a weekend sweep of the Minnesota Magicians.

Springfield got down early in the game when Minnesota scored just 2 minutes into the game. With the score 1-0, Springfield’s Matt Long  recorded his 15th goal of the season to tie the game at 1 midway through the first period.

The score remained 1-1 all the way until Springfield’s third period outburst. Forward Brennan Blaszczak scored his team leading 22nd goal of the season to put Springfield ahead 2-1. After Blaszczak’s goal, Long was able to score a power play goal to give Springfield a 3-1 lead. The goal was Long’s 16th of the season and his team leading 49th point of the season. Springfield finished the scoring on a goal from Matt Cassidy. The goal was Cassidy’s 14th of the season.

Springfield goaltender Jordan Greenfield-Flemon did not allow a goal in the final 58 minutes of the game and picked up the victory in net for Springfield.

Quick Turn Around: The Springfield Jr. Blues will have a quick turn around this week with a rare Tuesday night game against the Janesville Jets in Springfield. That night is Family Night at The Nelson Center. The first 250 fans will receive a 2016-17 team poster courtesy of CEFCU. The Springfield Jr. Blues will also be selling Family 4 packs for the game!
