Springfield Scores Late To Take 2-1 Victory

Jan 3, 2017

The Springfield Jr. Blues returned to the ice Monday night at The Nelson Center against the Minnesota Magicians, following the team’s 16-day holiday break. Both team’s came out slow, but Springfield was able to score a late third period goal to defeat the Magicians 2-1.

After a scoreless first period, Minnesota was able to get on the board first taking a 1-0 lead on a goal just 1:16 into the second period. But Springfield tied it 1-1 when Max Nylander scored on an assist from Matt Cassidy at 8:40 into the second period.

Springfield had thought that they had taken the lead early in the third period on a goal by Alex Peck, but the officials had ruled that Peck kicked the puck into the net.

A few minutes later, Brennan Blasczcak made sure the officials couldn’t overturn his goal, as he rifled a wrist shot past the Magicians goaltender to give Springfield a 2-1 lead.

Springfield was able to tighten up on defense for the remainder of the game and got great goaltending from Mike Robinson, who stopped 35 of 36 shots that he faced, to hold on for the victory.

Springfield will wrap up their two-game series with the Magicians Tuesday night. Presale tickets are available at Springfield Illinois YMCA and all Springfield Qik n EZ locations for a discounted price. Children (12 & Under)-$5. Adults-$8.
