Springfield Prepares for Pivotal Series This Weekend

Feb 23, 2017

The Springfield Jr. Blues have, what could be considered, their most important series of the season this Friday and Saturday night at The Nelson Center. Springfield welcomes the defending Robertson Cup Champions, Fairbanks Ice Dogs.

This is the final meeting between the two teams this season and the stakes could not be any higher. Both teams are separated in the NAHL Midwest Division by just 1 point and both teams are fighting for a playoff spot.

Springfield is currently in 3rd place with 46 points and Fairbanks is in 4th place with 45 points. Not too far behind in 5th place is the Coulee Region Chill with 40 points. Only the top 4 teams in each division make the NAHL Robertson Cup Playoffs and Springfield Head Coach Tony Zasowski is aware how crucial this series is.

“Fairbanks is right on our heels (in the standings) and playing good hockey at the moment,” said Coach Zasowski. “We’re in a battle for 3rd place in our division and can expect them to come out and play tough. This weekend series is going to be playoff style hockey.”
