Springfield Keeps Rolling with Victory Over Topeka

Springfield, IL- The Springfield Jr. Blues got goals from five different players, and goaltender Mike Robinson earned his first victory, as they defeated the Topeka Roadrunners 5-3 on Friday night at The Nelson Center to extend their win streak to six games.

Springfield opened the scoring just 16 seconds into the game when defenseman Jordan Muzzillo found the back of the net. However, the scoreboard was silent until the second period when the two teams combined for 6 total goals. Springfield got goals from Brandon Puricelli, Alex Peck and Zachary Tyson. After 2 periods, Springfield held a 4-3 lead.

Springfield forward Ryan Leibold was able to find the net in the third period to cap the scoring for the night. “It was great to be back home and have all of our lines going tonight,” said Springfield Head Coach Tony Zasowski. “(Mike) Robinson made some key save all night, especially in the third period that helped seal the game for us.”

Robinson, in his Springfield debut, stopped 30 of 33 shots to pick up the win in net. Springfield outshot the Roadrunners 44-33.

Springfield and Topeka will face off again Saturday night at 6:05pm.
