Springfield Finishes Off Topeka in OT

Feb 11, 2017

The Springfield Jr. Blues needed some extra time, 3 minutes and 8 seconds exactly, but were able to defeat the Topeka Roadrunners 2-1 in overtime on Saturday night.

After another scoreless first period, Springfield was able to strike first on a goal from Brennan Blaszczak. The goal was a team leading 16th for Blaszczak this season and came just 3 minutes and 20 seconds into the second period.

Topeka was able to answer back on a goal midway through the second period to tie the game at 1-1. The score would remain tied for the rest of regulation and the contest would head to overtime.

With 1:52 remaining in overtime, Springfield forward Matt Long was able to break-up a Topeka pass and get the puck to Max Nylander. Nylander was able to fire a shot past the Topeka goaltender for his 11th goal of the season and secure a 2-1 overtime victory for Springfield.

Springfield goaltender Jordan Greenfield-Flemon stopped 30 of Topeka’s 31 shots on goal to pick up his first victory as a member of the Springfield Jr. Blues.
