Springfield Falls to Jets in Overtime

Dec 4, 2016

The Springfield Jr. Blues were able to gain 1 point in the standings, but fell in overtime to the Janesville Jets 4-3 Saturday night at the Nelson Center.

Springfield came back from both 1-0 and 2-1 deficits to tie the game. Fabio Hollenstein was able to tie it at 1-1 midway through the first period. Janesville answered with a goal less than 2 minutes later to retake the lead.

With the score at 2-1, Springfield was able to score 2 power play goals 12 seconds apart. Jack Nickels scored the first goal on a 5-on-3 power play to tie it, and then Braden Brown slid it past the Janesville goalie to put Springfield ahead 3-2.

Springfield head the lead until late in the third when Janesville went to dump the puck into the Springfield zone. As goalie Mike Robinson went behind the net to play the puck, it hit a part of the glass and went directly into the Springfield net.

Janesville was able to score the deciding goal in overtime to seal a 4-3 victory.

Springfield will be back at The Nelson Center next weekend to take on the Coulee Ridge Chill, who they only trail by 2 points in the standing. The team will be wearing Ugly Holiday Sweater jerseys that will be auctioned off during the games
