Springfield Falls to Janesville 5-2

The Springfield Jr. Blues got into an early deficit and were unable to bounce back, falling to the Janesville Jets 5-2 on Tuesday night at The Nelson Center.

Janesville started the scoring in the 1st period, going up 1-0 with 8 minutes and 12 seconds remaining in the first period. The Jets doubled their lead just 1:42 later, making it 2-0.

Springfield forward Matt Long, with an assist from Ryan Leibold,  put Springfield on the board with 1:08 remaining in the 1st period. Springfield entered the 1st intermission trailing 2-1.

In the 2nd period, Long scored his second goal of the night to bring the score to a 2-2 tie.  However, before the second period was over, Janesville was able to reclaim the lead and take a 3-2 lead into the 2nd intermission.

Springfield was unable to recover in the 3rd period and the Jets netted two more goals before the end of regulation to pick up the 5-2 victory. Springfield was outshot by Janesville 48-28. Springfield goaltender Jordan Greenfield-Flemon stopped 43 of Janesville’s 48 shots on goal.
