Springfield Begins Road Trip in Janesville

Mar 9, 2017

The Springfield Jr. Blues have played their last 7 games at The Nelson Center in Springfield. Now it is time to take to the highway for a 4-game road trip.

Springfield begins their road trip this Friday night against the Janesville Jets in Janesville, Wisconsin. With Springfield (23-23-2-1, 49 pts.) currently in 4th place and Janesville (36-9-0-3, 75 pts.) in 1st place, this weekend could be a preview of a NAHL first round playoff matchup.

Head Coach Tony Zasowski recognizes the chance of a successful weekend leading to  a possible bump in the NAHL Midwest Division standings.

“There’s a lot of opportunity to move up  in the standings with Fairbanks playing the (Minnesota) Magicians. Janesville is tough opponent and we’re going to have to bring our A-game.”

But also Coach Zasowski is taking a “one-game-at-a-time” mentality to the remaining 11 games of the season.

“We’ve got a good team going here. Our focus (each game) is not on making the playoffs, but on winning every game. The rest will take care of itself.”

Who’s Hot: Over the past 3 games, Springfield has scored eight goals. Seven of those eight goals have had the involvement of forwards Brennan Blaszczak and Matt Long and defenseman Chase Mickelson.

Blaszczak, who leads Springfield with 21 goals,  has 2 goals and 1 assist over the past 3 games. Long, Springfield’s point leader with 46 points in 47 games, tallied 4 assists this past weekend against Topeka. Defenseman Mickelson had a successful offensive weekend, scoring a goal and adding 2 assist.
