Nelson Leads Jr. Blues Past Jets, 6-1

Feb 2, 2019

Janesville, Wisconsin – The Springfield Jr. Blues overcame an early deficit to roll past the Janesville Jets 6-1 on Friday night. Nigel Nelson scored his first goal since November 30th as he lit the lamp twice to lead the Jr. Blues to within one point of 3rd place. Jack Williams denied 29 of 30 shots to earn his 13th win of the season.

Jack Vincent scored late in the 1st period to give the Jets a 1-0 lead, but that would be the only offense the Jr. Blues would allow. The next six goals of the game would be scored by Springfield. Max Brainin and Giovanni Carabelli would score in the 2nd period to lead 2-1 heading into the 3rd.

Four goals in just over four minutes in the final period would be all the Jr. Blues would need and more. Nelson (2), Nick Techel, and Ben Schmidling would all light the lamp in the 3rd period to extend the lead to 6-1 and that would be the final score.

Techel, Schmidling, and Carabelli each had an assist and a goal in the game. Brandon Puricelli, Nikita Kozyrev, Aaron Swanson, Cade Groton, and Ryan Murray each had an assist as well.

The Jr. Blues now sit at 20-16-2-1 for 43 points and are in 4th place in the Midwest Division. The Janesville Jets sit one point ahead of the Jr. Blues in 3rd place with a 20-16-2-2 record. A rematch will take place this evening at 7:05 pm CST. Catch the action live on HockeyTV.
