Jr. Blues Split with Soo

FRIDAY RECAP

Pointstreak- Matt Leon was superb between the pipes for the Springfield Jr. Blues, as he did not allow a goal in a 3-0 victory over the Soo Eagles.

Springfield was sparked by Trevor Stone, who registered one goal and one assist. Stone scored 8:52 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Springfield. Tom Cooney assisted on the tally.

The Jr. Blues stifled Soo's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Springfield's defense was surprisingly good. The Jr. Blues average 3.0 goals allowed per game. Springfield put 35 shots on net during the contest, more than the 26.3 it averages per game.

Matt Iacopelli also scored for Springfield. Other players who recorded assists for Springfield were Nate Chasteen and Alex Baskakov, who each chipped in one.

The Eagles could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Soo averages 3.3 goals per game. The Eagles relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Jared VanWormer, Sean Murphy and Eric Rivard took 21 of the team's 41 shots. Soo was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 26 penalty minutes.

Matt Leon made 41 saves for the Jr. Blues on 41 shots. Springfield incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Eagles' Tyler Marble stopped 32 shots out of the 35 that he faced. Soo registered zero goals on three power play opportunities.

The Springfield Jr. Blues tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Soo Eagles held on for a 5-4 victory.

Soo made the score 5-3 on a goal by Michael Lant at 13:14 in the third period, and Springfield got as close as 5-4 when Matt Iacopelli scored 17:29 into the third period.

The Eagles got the win behind a great game by Jared VanWormer, who had one goal and two assists. VanWormer scored 5:32 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Soo. Brandon Adams provided the assist.

Soo's offense was clicking better than usual and put 35 shots on goal during the game, better than the 27.7 shots per game it averages.

Soo additionally got points from Lant, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Sean Murphy, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Nikita Zagryadskiy, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Denver Pierce, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Soo were Cody Von Reuden, Mike Sabatini, and Chris Waterstreet, who contributed one a piece.

The Jr. Blues forced the Eagles goalie Skoog Paige to work between the pipes, taking 43 shots.

Springfield also got a goal from Brett Skibba as well. In addition, Springfield received assists from Davis Dekorte, who had two and Terry Leibo, Ji Young Li, Parker Johnson, and Ryan Atkinson, who each chipped in one.

Paige recorded 39 saves for Soo. The Eagles totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. Springfield's Matt Leon stopped 30 shots out of the 35 that he faced. The Jr. Blues totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play.
