Jr. Blues Salvage Split with Fairbanks

Fairbanks, Alaska – The Springfield Jr. Blues began their Alaska road trip by splitting a two game set with the Fairbanks Ice Dogs this past weekend. Springfield now sits in sole possession of 4th place with a 15-15-2-1 record and are 6-4-0-0 in their last 10 games.

Friday, January 11th: Jr. Blues 1 – 8 Fairbanks

The Jr. Blues were outplayed from start to finish by the Ice Dogs on Friday night, falling 8-1. Aaron Swanson scored the lone goal of the evening for Springfield, assisted by Nick Techel and Max Osborne. Jack Williams got the loss in the game, stopping 19 of 24 before Janis Voris stepped in to play the 3rd period. 

Saturday, January 12th: Jr. Blues 4 – 3 Fairbanks

A big bounce back win for the Jr. Blues on Saturday was highlighted by a 37 save performance by Janis Voris on his way to his second win with the team. Four different players scored for Springfield: Ben Schmidling, Aaron Swanson, Max Osborne, and the game winner from Kyle Gudme. Brandon Puricelli added two assists and now has 35 points on the season.

Division Notes:

The Chippewa Steel helped the Jr. Blues out tremendously this past weekend as they swept the Kenai River Brown Bears in Kenai. Springfield is now 5 points ahead of the Brown Bears for 4th place, and are now 9 points behind Janesville for 3rd place. Minnesota is securely in 1st place right now, and Fairbanks is one point ahead of Janesville for 2nd place. Chippewa remains in last place, but have won their last three games and are just 4 points behind Kenai River.

The Jr. Blues continue their trip to the Great White North this week with a three game series against the Kenai River Brown Bears. The two teams have played each other four times so far this season with each team winning twice.
