Jr. Blues One Step Closer to Regular Season

Sep 9, 2019

Springfield, Illinois – With the conclusion of the 2019 Southern Showdown, the Springfield Jr. Blues are one step closer to the start of the 2019-20 North American Hockey League (NAHL) season.

On Friday evening, the Jr. Blues opened up the weekend with a 2-0 shutout over the Corpus Christi IceRays. Aaron Shaw and Danila Larionovs scored for the Jr. Blues while Jackson Salt added two assists. Ryan Wilson and Alex Proctor combined for the shutout.

Things would not go the Jr. Blues way on Saturday night, however, as the host Lone Star Brahmas claimed a 4-1 victory. Aaron Swanson scored the lone tally for the Jr. Blues on the power play, while Ryan Wilson and Henry Graham combined to stop 49 out of 53 shots in the contest.

Sunday afternoon saw the Jr. Blues and the Shreveport Mudbugs faceoff in what was the first of several meetings scheduled this season. Despite many clutch saves from Henry Graham and Alex Proctor, the Jr. Blues fell to the Mudbugs 3-2. Aaron Swanson picked up his second power play goal in as many games, and Anders Grongstad scored his first goal of the preseason late in the contest.

The team will now shift their focus to Lindenwood University who comes to town this Friday evening for a 7:05 pm puck drop to wrap up the 2019 preseason.
