Oct 29, 2023

Soldotna, Alaska – Landry Schmuck’s power play goal late in the third period was the difference on Saturday night as the Jr. Blues defeated the Kenai River Brown Bears 2-0 at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex.

With the two teams deadlocked in the third period, Brown Bears forward Brock MacDonald was assessed a major penalty for cross checking at 11:16 sending the Jr. Blues on a 5-minute power play. Schmuck, standing on the right circle, would blast a one timer past Brown Bears goalie Owen Zenone for the eventual game winner. Jagur McClelland would add an empty net goal with two seconds remaining to seal the victory for the Jr. Blues. Goaltender JJ Cataldo stopped 31 shots to pick up his first shutout of the season.

The Jr. Blues return to home ice Friday November 3rd when the Central divisions North Iowa Bulls come to town for an out of division match up.
