Jun 16, 2020

Springfield, Illinois – Today, we dive into the WIAC as we make our final stop on our adventure through the NCAA Division 3 landscape. Here is today’s Alumni Report!

We begin this morning by stopping by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire where a pair of forwards helped the BluGolds to the 2019-20 WIAC Championship and a National Tournament berth. Freshman forward Nick Techel, a native of Wausau, WI, appeared in 25 games this season for Eau Claire, recording 4 goals and 8 assists with a +10 rating. The 2020 Wallace G. Avervik Award winner, given annually to UW-Eau Claire’s top freshman, scored his first NCAA assist and point on November 8th against St. Olaf. Techel, who was also named the 2019 Primelink Shootout Most Outstanding Rookie, then scored his first goal on November 20th against Middlebury.

Techel’s teammate and fellow alum Andrew McGlynn, a sophomore from St. Louis, MO, recorded 11 goals and 16 assists with a +30 rating in 24 games this season. The 2019 Wallace G. Avervik Award winner was listed as a 2020 WIAC all-Conference Honorable Mention this season as he now has 17 goals, 24 assists, and a +50 rating in 49 career NCAA games.

Our final spotlight today, and final Division 3 spotlight, is on freshman blue liner Sam Sterne. Sterne, a native of Batavia, IL, appeared in 22 games this season for UW-Superior. He recorded his first NCAA point and assist on November 8th against Saint Mary’s and remained a mainstay on the back end for the Yellowjackets as they made a push into the WIAC tournament.

Congratulations to our alumni who represented us in the WIAC for a phenomenal season! We are proud of the work that you have accomplished and wish you the best of luck next season!
