Jr. Blues Alumni Report: the 2019-20 NEHC & UCHC Seasons

Springfield, Illinois – We have travelled through the Division 1 landscape and have made strong headway through Division 3. Today, we continue our adventure by recapping the seasons of our alumni in the NEHC and UCHC. Here is our Alumni Report!

We begin today by looking into the Northeastern Hockey Conference (NEHC) and first with Babson College. Junior forward Patrick Flynn is coming off a 21 point season on 6 goals and 15 assists in 23 games played. The Framingham, MA native has now appeared in 70 career NCAA games and has 18 goals, 35 assists, and a +17 rating. Flynn represented the Beavers on the 2019 NEHC Academic All-Conference team as well. 

From Babson to Hobart, our next spotlight is on sophomore forward Zach Tyson. The Dublin, OH native played 24 games this season and scored 10 goals and 7 assists with a +11 rating. The 2018-19 NEHC All-Rookie Team member has now appeared in 54 career games for the Statesmen and has a 17 goal, 27 assist, and +26 stat line. Tyson earned NEHC Rookie of the Week honors once and was named the 2018-19 Hobart Co-Rookie of the Year. 

Our next pit stop is at UMass-Boston where sophomore forward Jeff Skinner helped lead the Beacons to a playoff berth. In 22 games played this year the Houston, TX native scored 8 goals and added 10 assists with a +4 rating. The 2015-16 Jr. Blues Rookie of the Year has appeared in 50 career games for the Beacons and has scored 14 goals and 18 assists with a +8 rating. He has earned one NEHC Player of the Weeks honors in his career. 

Skinner was joined at UMass-Boston this season by Dallas, TX native Davis Browning. Browning, a freshman defenseman, appeared in 25 games for the Beacons this year and had 5 assists with a +6 rating. Browning scored his first NCAA point and assist on November 16th against Southern Maine. 

Our final NEHC alum is Callahan Johnson, a sophomore forward at Skidmore. The Billerica, MA native appeared in 24 games this season, scoring 4 goals and 3 assists with a +7 rating. Johnson has played in 47 career NCAA games for the Thoroughbreads with 7 goals, 4 assists, and a +6 rating on his resume. 

We transition from the NEHC to the UCHC and first look into the season of Utica freshman Brendan Schultz. The Schaumburg, IL native played in 13 games for the UCHC champion Pioneers, scoring 1 goals and 4 assists. Schultz notched his first NCAA point and assist on December 6th against Stevenson before recording his first goal on January 18th against King’s College. 

Lebanon Valley College is our next destination as we look at a pair of blue liners for the Dutchmen. Junior defenseman Zach Balodis appeared in 25 games this season, recording his first NCAA goal and 4 assists. The Cleveland, OH native scored his first goal against Stevenson on January 31st, and now has collected 25 points on 1 goal and 24 assists in 72 career games. 

Balodis’ teammate and fellow alum Connor Matsinger is a sophomore at Lebanon Valley and appeared in 24 games this season. The New Britain, PA native did not appear in any games in 2018-19 but recorded 1 goal and 2 assists this season. Matsinger recorded his first point and assist against Brockport on January 10th and then tallied his first goal against Chatham on January 18th.
