Jan 29, 2019

Springfield, Illinois – The Springfield Jr. Blues, proud member of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are pleased to announce that forward Ben Schmidling has been named the Bauer Hockey Star of the Week for the Midwest Division for his play this past weekend against the Janesville Jets!

Schmidling, 20, helped the Jr. Blues to a weekend home split with the Janesville Jets. The 5’10/172 lbs. native of St. Joseph, Missouri, put up three goals in two games, which helped the Jr. Blues stay solidly in a playoff spot in the Midwest Division. On Friday, Schmidling scored two goals in a 4-2 win, and then on Saturday, he added another goal in a 4-2 loss. For the season, Schmidling is 2nd on the team in scoring with 35 points (17 goals, 18 assists) in 38 games played.

“Ben has been hot for us lately. He is committed to being a leader on and off the ice for us in the second half and it has shown the last couple of weeks,” said Jr. Blues head coach Tyler Rennette.

Schmidling is the 2nd Jr. Blues player this season to be named the star of the week with the other recipient being Nikita Kozyrev earlier this month.
