Springfield, Illinois – It was a very exciting weekend of hockey at the Nelson Center as we kicked off our 2023 Main Camp. Nothing, however, could’ve prepared us for how successful this past weekend turned out to be!
125 players came to town with hopes and aspirations of joining the most storied franchise in the North American Hockey League (NAHL). From the first individual team practice session on Thursday to the All-Star game on Sunday, players kept the intensity level at ‘10’ all weekend long! We were blown away by the support from the community and the passion of the players, and our excitement for the 2023-24 season only continues to grow.
“I am very excited about the speed and skill that was on display over the weekend,” said Head Coach Todd Pococke. “We like to play a fast and hard style of hockey and I am very excited with the group that we are bringing to training camp.”
“It’s not just about what the players are able to do on the ice,” said Assistant Coach Ross Kovacs. “These players have the right kind of character off the ice as well and that’s every bit as important for the culture we are striving to have here in Springfield.”
Players will report to Springfield at the end of August for training camp, and then our regular season will get underway at the North American Hockey League Showcase September 13-16 in Blaine, MN. Our first home game will be September 22nd against the Kenai River Brown Bears.
