Springfield 6 @ Kenai River 2 – For the first time since 2013, the Springfield Jr. Blues are headed to the postseason. They clinched their ticket to the 2018 Robertson Cup playoffs in convincing fashion as they took down the Kenai River Brown Bears 6-2. Max Brainin led all skaters with three points, two goals and an assist. Brandon Puricelli also netted two goals in the win. Fabio Hollenstein had a goal and an assist while Nick Schultze also found the back of the net. Jurja Ovecka picked up the win in the crease as he made 29 saves. Alex Klekotka and Filip Karlsson scored for Kenai River.
After a win, then a loss against the Alaska, the Springfield Jr. Blues bounced back during their first game against Kenai, winning 4-3.
A late shorthanded goal from Dylan Rauh moved the Jr. Blues to the brink of a playoff berth thanks to a 4-3 win on Thursday night. Chase Mickelson, who had a goal and an assist in the win, started the scoring for the Jr. Blues in the 1st period. Max Brainin and Nick Schultze scored in the 2nd period and Rauh added the game-winner late in the 3rd period. Brown Bears goals came from Sutton McDonald and Filip Karlsson in the 2nd period and Lukas Millen in the 3rd period. Evan Fear made 21 saves in the win, while Gavin Enright made 27 saves in the loss.
The Springfield Jr. Blues took two out of four possible points this weekend when they broke the Fairbanks Ice Dogs 33-game point streak. Friday night Springfield won 5-3 over Fairbanks. It was Brandon Puricelli with two goals and two assists, along with two goals from Patrick Smyth, and one goal from Marcus Walter, which broke the Ice Dogs streak. Goalie Jurja Ovecka denied 26 goals to Fairbanks and picked up his 10th win of the year. On Saturday the Ice Dogs won with a final score of 6-1. Forward Max Brainin was the sole scoring player for Springfield.
The team took Sunday to rest and tour the University of Alaska, Fairbanks.
Today Springfield will travel to take on the Kenai River Brown Bears for a three-game set this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

Both goalies were incredibly sharp throughout the game, leading to no score through the third. The third ended 0-0, sending us to overtime.
In overtime, Jordan Muzzillo found the back of the net with assists from Puricelli and Shultze, winning the game for Springfield! Goaltender Evan Fear stopped all 30 pucks he saw, earning him a shutout tonight!

The second period opened with a power play goal by Max Brainin with an assist from Shultz and Walter, tying the game at 1-1. Springfield struck again at 8:02 of the period, with a goal from Captain Fletcher Fineman, assists from Brainin and Swanson. The Magicians tied things back up at 14: 36, making the score 2-2 to end the period.
