Weekend Preview – Springfield at Chill

This weekend the Springfield Jr Blues will be hosted by the Coulee Region Chill in La Crosse, Wisconsin. The teams will play, Friday and Saturday evening before Springfield practices at home and then heads out to Janesville next weekend to start the playoffs.

Be sure to mark your calendars for Friday and Saturday, April 20th and 21st  (April 21st will only be played if necessary). Your Springfield Jr. Blues are home for their first home-stand of the post season. Be sure to come out on Friday for Happy Hour with $1. Coors Lite drafts from 5:45 until 6:45, $2 Blue Moon, a live band, and the puck drop at 7:05.

Saturday (if necessary) the guys are back in action with the doors opening at 5:05 and a puck drop at 6:05.

Player To Watch:

Brandon Koch: Koch has earned 40 points this season, 34 of which are assists. With six goals, Springfield will have to keep an eye on his play and limit his chances to set up scoring.

Emil Zetterquist:  The Coulee goalie is 14-19 so far this season. He sports a save percentage of 0.916 and a GAA of 3.08.

Marcus Walter Springfield forward Marcus Walter has logged 21 points this season with Springfield. He has 5 goals and 16 assists. He has one power play goal, nine power play assists, and one game winning goal.

Manning The Blue Line:
Nikita Kozyrev
 Springfield defenseman Nikita Kozyrev has logged 38 points this season, with 14 goals and 24 assists. He has two power play goals, 10 power play assists, one game winning goal, and FIVE shoot out goals, more than anyone else on the team.

Between The Pipes:
Evan Fear: Goaltender Evan Fear sports a save percentage of .929 this season, with 2.41 GAA. His shootout save percentage is 0.923. He is 18-11 so far this season for the Springfield Jr. Blues, and he will look to stay hot this weekend!

The Springfield Jr. Blues won Wednesday against the Janesville Jets, after a long stretch of away games, your Springfield Jr. Blues are ready to be back in action at the Nelson Center.

Springfield is at home all weekend, facing the Minnesota Magicians for our last home stand of the regular season. This is the sixth time they have met the Magicians this season. Springfield and the Magicians have been battling for third place in the standings for the last few weeks, and this game series could determine final standings before playoffs.

Friday night at Nelson Center will be our Fan Appreciation Night and Billet Family night. Come out for some fun giveaways and to celebrate our team! Saturday night is our Jump Rope for Heart night! This is our last home-stand for the regular season, so be sure to come out and see your Springfield Jr. Blues in action.

Matt DenmanThis blue liner has recorded 21 points this season, 19 of which are assists. Springfield will have to keep an eye on his two-way play, and limit his chances to set up scoring chances

Isaiah Saville:  The Anchorage native 20-12-3-0 this season, with a goals against average of 2.54. He also sports a save percentage of 0.922.

Ethan Stewart The Springfield forward leads his team in points this season with 17 goals and 24 assits. He has scored six power play goal and one game winning goal this season. He will look to continue his momentum this weekend against the Magicians.

 

Manning The Blue Line:

Ryan Murray: The defenseman started the season with the Minnesota Wilderness, where he logged 2 assists. Since his trade to Springfield, he has added one more assist to that total.

 

Between The Pipes:

Jurja Ovecka: Goaltender Jurja Ovecka sports a save percentage of .924 this season, with 2.65 GAA. He is 11-6 so far this season for the Springfield Jr. Blues, and he will look to stay hot this weekend!

Weekend Recap

Your Springfield Jr. Blues came away with a loss tonight against the Janesville Jets, splitting the series. The team will be on the road for the next few weekends, making their trip to Alaska to face Fairbanks and Kenai! You can catch the away games at Cooper’s AlleySide for our viewing parties!

 

The first period started with three goals from Janesville, at 2:05, 5:05, and 7:01. At 11:33 Springfield responded with a goal from Brandon Puricellli with assists from Muzzillo and Haviland. Janesville found the back of the net a fourth time, causing goal tender Evan Fear to head to the bench and Jurja Ovecka to step into net at 12:53 of the period. The period ended with one more Springfield goal, this time from Spencer DenBeste on the power play. His assists came from Brainin and Mickelson at 16:12 of the period. We headed into the intermission with a score of 4-2.

 

The second period started with a goal from Nikita Kozyrev at 5:17 with an assist from Stewart, putting your Springfield Jr. Blues within one! Janesville found the back of the net while shorthanded at 14:00 of the period, bringing the score to 5-3. Janesville’s Reid Hill took a 5 minute slashing minor and a game misconduct penalty at the end of this period, giving your Springfield Jr. Blues the one man advantage going into the third period.

 

Your Springfield Jr. Blues started the third with 2:41 remaining on their power play. Unable to capitalize on this, the score stayed at 5-3 in favor of Janesville. At 18:10 Janesville struck again, finishing the game 6-3.

The Springfield Jr. Blues dropped last weekend’s away series against the Topeka RoadRunners.

Springfield is at home this Saturday, facing the Janesville Jets. This is the third time this month they have met the Jets, having dropped the last two series.

Garret Nieto:  This goalie hailing from sunny CA is 14-3-0-2 this season. His GAA is 2.20 and he has a save percentage of 0.924. He’s seeing significant improvement from his time last season with your very own Jr. Blues.
