Weekend Preview – Minnesota at Springfield 3/30-31



The Springfield Jr. Blues won Wednesday against the Janesville Jets, after a long stretch of away games, your Springfield Jr. Blues are ready to be back in action at the Nelson Center.

Springfield is at home all weekend, facing the Minnesota Magicians for our last home stand of the regular season. This is the sixth time they have met the Magicians this season. Springfield and the Magicians have been battling for third place in the standings for the last few weeks, and this game series could determine final standings before playoffs.

Friday night at Nelson Center will be our Fan Appreciation Night and Billet Family night. Come out for some fun giveaways and to celebrate our team! Saturday night is our Jump Rope for Heart night! This is our last home-stand for the regular season, so be sure to come out and see your Springfield Jr. Blues in action.

Forward To Watch:


Jarrett LeeThe Magicians forward has 38 points so far this season, averaging just under one point per game. He is already far exceeding his points from last season, also with the Magicians. He has three game winning goals as well as three power play goals, so Springfield will have to be aware of his ability to capitalize when it matters most for his team.

Manning the Blue Line:


Matt DenmanThis blue liner has recorded 21 points this season, 19 of which are assists. Springfield will have to keep an eye on his two-way play, and limit his chances to set up scoring chances

Between The Pipes:


Isaiah Saville:  The Anchorage native 20-12-3-0 this season, with a goals against average of 2.54. He also sports a save percentage of 0.922.

Forward To Watch:

Ethan Stewart The Springfield forward leads his team in points this season with 17 goals and 24 assits. He has scored six power play goal and one game winning goal this season. He will look to continue his momentum this weekend against the Magicians.


Manning The Blue Line:

Ryan Murray: The defenseman started the season with the Minnesota Wilderness, where he logged 2 assists. Since his trade to Springfield, he has added one more assist to that total.


Between The Pipes:

Jurja Ovecka: Goaltender Jurja Ovecka sports a save percentage of .924 this season, with 2.65 GAA. He is 11-6 so far this season for the Springfield Jr. Blues, and he will look to stay hot this weekend!

Weekend Recap

Your Springfield Jr. Blues came away with an overtime loss tonight against the Minnesota Magicians, making the final series 2-1 in favor of Minnesota. The Springfield Jr. Blues are home again next weekend on Friday and Saturday nights vs. the Janesville Jets.


The first period started off with the Magicians finding the back of the net at 16:07. We ended the period with a score of 1-0.


Springfield started off by tying up the second period with a Power Play goal from Brandon Puricelli, with an assist from Stewart, at 7:13. We ended the period with a score of 1-1.


The third period was uneventful, sending the game into yet another overtime. Minnesota found the net first, ending the game with a score of 2-1. Goaltender Evan Fear stopped 25 of the 27 pucks he saw tonight, earning him at SVV of 0.926% despite a tough loss.


Be sure to get your tickets early for next weekend. Friday night will be packed for our Hockey Across America celebration, and we will have an even bigger crowd for our 25th Anniversary Alumni event on Saturday, March 3rd.

Game Recap – Springfield vs. Magicians

Your Springfield Jr. Blues came away with a loss against the Minnesota Magicians tonight. They will face the magic two more times this weekend; Friday night at 7:05 PM and Saturday night at 6:05 PM.


The first period was a quiet one, with nothing but penalties exchanged between the teams. Ovecka got the start in net and stopped the 7 shots he faced in the first period. Springfield ended the period leading in SOG 16-7.


Springfield started off the scoring in the second period with an unassisted goal from Patrick Smyth at 5:48 of the period! Minnesota responded with a goal of their own at 9:14. Fabio Hollenstein tallied on the power play at 11:25, with an assist from Kozyrev, giving Springfield the lead once again. We finished the period 2-1.


The third period started off with Minnesota tying things up at 14:15 of the period, which sent us into overtime. Your Springfield Jr. Blues fell in overtime to the Minnesota Magicians with a score of 3-2.
