Sep 6, 2019

North Richland Hills, Texas – The Springfield Jr. Blues departed for Texas yesterday morning in advance of a three game series against members from the North American Hockey League’s South Division for the inaugural Southern Showdown. The action starts this afternoon and continues until Sunday evening.

Tonight, the Jr. Blues square up with the Corpus Christi IceRays at 5:45 pm for game one of the 2019 Southern Showdown for both clubs. The last matchup between the IceRays and the Jr. Blues came back at the 2015 NAHL Showcase, the Jr. Blues won that game 3-1. In just over two weeks from now these same two teams will face off at this year’s showcase on September 21st at 3:30 pm, it will be the final game of the showcase for both teams.

Tomorrow evening the Jr. Blues will face-off with the Lone Star Brahmas at 5:45 pm for the first meeting between the two teams since the 2015 NAHL Showcase which saw the Brahmas win 5-0. This will be the only meeting between Lone Star and Springfield this season unless they meet at the Robertson Cup in May.

The weekend will wrap-up on Sunday afternoon as the Jr. Blues and the Shreveport Mudbugs battle it out at 2:10 pm. The Jr. Blues and Mudbugs played each other during last year’s preseason, but the last regular season meeting was at the 2017 NAHL Showcase. Shreveport won that matchup 4-0. This season will see the Jr. Blues and the Mudbugs play each four times during the regular season, two in Springfield on October 4th and 5th and two in Shreveport on February 7th and 8th.
