Fidelis Pest Control: Hero of the Game

The Springfield Jr. Blues take a time out during each home game to honor a local Hero/Veteran who has served in the United States Military.

This past weekend Springfield was pleased to honor Master Sergeant (MSgt) Dennis Cooper, USMC Retired.

MSgt Cooper Enlisted in the USMC January 7th, 1965 and served 30 years before retiring December 10th, 1995. He completed Boot Camp in San Diego before AIT and Teletype/Radio School. He was then assigned to HQ SQN, Marine Wing Service Group 27, in Cherry Point, NC.

From November 1965 through the mid 70’s, MSgt Cooper worked Various FMF Atlantic and Pacific Units as a Comm/Crypto Operator including an operation in 1966 tracking movements of NVA and VC units.

Starting in 1976 and through his retirement in 1995 he worked various positions including:

• Radio Chief – Marine Air Control Group 48 – NAS Glenview, IL
• Radio Chief – HQ Company 2nd BT 24th Marines
• Recruiter – Chicagoland Area

From Jan 1991 – June 1991 he was deployed to Operation Desert Storm.

Since moving to Springfield in 2007, MSgt has worked with Toys for Tots.

His medals and awards include:

  • Navy-Marine Commendation
  • Armed Forces Reserve
  • Kuwait – Saudi Arabia Liberation
  • Rifle Expert x2
  • Pistol Sharpshooter x2
