Springfield’s Comeback Falls Short in Overtime Loss to Coulee Region

The Springfield Jr. Blues faced a 2-goal deficit twice on Saturday night, but were able to come back and send the game to overtime. However, the Coulee Region Chill were able to net the overtime winner, giving Springfield a 5-4 overtime loss.

Trailing 4-2 entering the third period Saturday night, Springfield pulled even with a pair of power-play goals.

The first came from Brennan Blaszczak — his team-leading 24th goal of the season — on assists from Max Nylander and Chase Mickelson at 7:51 into the final period. Ryan Leibold later tied it on assists from Jack Nickels and Matt Cassidy at 17:39. The goal was Leibold’s 2nd of the game.

 

Nylander scored a first-period goal assisted by Joseph Sardina for Springfield, and Leibold scored a power-play goal on assists from Nickels and Jordan Muzzillo in the second period.

Springfield outshot the Chill 45-42 and were 3-for-8 on the power play. Jordan Greenfield-Flemon was in net for Springfield, stopping 37 of 42 Coulee Region shots

Springfield will host Coulee Region at 7:05 p.m. Friday and 6:05 p.m. Saturday. The series will close out Springfield’s season.
