Springfield’s Comeback Attempt Fails in 4-3 Loss to Chill

Mar 17, 2017

The Springfield Jr. Blues were unable to complete their comeback attempt on Friday night in La Crosse, Wisconsin, falling to the Coulee Region Chill 4-3 in a game with big standing implications.

Springfield got on the board first when Matt Cassidy buried a one-time shot off a Brandon Puricelli pass to make the score 1-0. The goal was Cassidy’s 12th of the season. Coulee Region responded quickly scoring 2 goals in the next 1:07 to take a 2-1 lead.

There was no scoring until Springfield defenseman Jordan Muzzillo tied the game with 14 minutes left in regulation with his 6th goal of the season.  Coulee answered right back again, scoring 2 goals and re-taking the lead at 4-2.

Springfield never gave up fighting. Forward Max Nylander scored his 14th goal this season with 1:53 left in the game to cut the Springfield deficit to 4-3. With goaltender Mike Robinson pulled for an extra attacker, Springfield fired 3 shots on goal but could not get the equalizer and time ran out on their comeback attempt.

Springfield outshot Coulee Region 39-37 for the game. Robinson made 33 saves in net for Springfield.

These two teams will battle again Saturday night at 7:00pm in La Crosse. Fans can follow along on the free Springfield Jr. Blues mobile app.
