Springfield Splits with University of Illinois Over The Weekend

The Springfield Jr. Blues wrapped up their pre-season this weekend against the University of Illinois.

On Saturday, the Fighting Illini got 4 goals in the 2nd period to pull away from Springfield, defeating the home team 6-2. Springfield received their goals from forwards Aiden Beck and Callahan Johnson.

For Sunday’s game, Springfield came out looking for revenge and got it, defeating the visiting team 5-2. Springfield took a 1-0 lead on a goal from forward Kyle Herbster. Springfield extended their lead to 3-0 on consecutive goals from forward Zach Shapiro. The Fighting Illini were able to shrink Springfield’s lead to 3-2, but Herbster added to his goal total, doubling the home teams lead to 4-2. An empty net goal by Springfield’s Cole Lawrence sealed a 5-2 victory.
