Springfield Secures Shootout Victory Over Topeka On #PinkTheRink Night

Oct 27, 2017

The Springfield Jr. Blues jumped out to an early lead, but gave up 2 late third period goals that sent the game to an eventual shootout. Springfield was able to rebound and defeat the Topeka Roadrunners 3-2 in a shootout Friday night at the Nelson Center.

The game did not see any scoring start until midway through the 2nd period when Ethan Stewart was able to beat the Topeka goaltender. Stewart’s goal was a team-leading 5th of the season, and was assisted by Fabio Hollenstein and Nikita Kozyrev.

Springfield then jumped out to a 2-0 lead when Giovanni Carabelli, making his Springfield debut, scored with assists to Jeff Skinner and Fletcher Fineman.

Topeka did get on the scoreboard with under 7 minutes to play scoring on a rebound, following a great save by Springfield goaltender Juraj Ovecka. Then, with their goalie pulled and 53 seconds remainin, Topeka got the equalizer they needed to send the game to overtime.

With no scoring in the overtime, the game went to a shootout. In the shootout, Ovecka stopped both of Topeka’s attempts, while Springfield received goals from Kozyrev and Riley Doyon.
