The Springfield Jr. Blues, proud members of the North American Hockey League, are pleased to announce that Head Coach Tyler Rennette is one of 20 men taking part in this year’s Real Men Making Strides Campaign.
The fundraiser requires the men to each raise $2,500 for breast cancer research by October 31st and to wear pink every day during that month to help promote the American Cancer Society’s movement in the fight against cancer.
“My grandmother was diagnosed with breast cancer, and she fought it off, and it’s something that is close to my heart, and it’s something that is close to every player that I coach too,” said Coach Rennette.
In support of Coach Rennette, the Springfield Jr. Blues will be selling Men Skating Strides merchandise, during home games in October. The team will also be running a Facebook campaign with each of its 23 players explaining why they are backing their coach and want to help in the fight against breast cancer.
The Springfield Jr. Blues will be painting the ice at The Nelson Center pink on Friday, October 27th for the annual Pink in the Rink game when the team takes on the Topeka Roadrunners. At the game the Springfield Jr. Blues will recognize those currently battling cancer as well as breast cancer survivors.
As well as raising the $2,500 for the American Cancer Society Coach Rennette and members of the Springfield Jr. Blues team will be taking part in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk, which takes place on Saturday, October 21st at the Illinois State Fairgrounds. Making Strides Against Breast Cancer events raise money and awareness to help the American Cancer Society in its efforts to save lives from breast cancer.
