Springfield Gets 1st Victory Of The Season

Juraj Ovecka made 40 saves, Nikita Kozyrev scored the game-winner and Head Coach Tyler Rennette tallied his first NAHL vicotyr as the Springfield Jr. Blues got a 2-1 win against the Aberdeen Wings at the North American Hockey League Showcase Wednesday.

Springfield trailed early, giving up a goal to Aberdeen just 5 minutes and 35 seconds into the first period. The Wings led 1-0 and out shot Springfield 14-2 in the period.

Springfield was able to tie the game late in the second period when defenseman Jordan Muzzillo scored on a slap shot from teh point that beat the Aberdeen goaltender.

In the third period, Springfield forward Jeff Skinner took a shot from the point that was saved by the Aberdeen net-minder, but Kozyrev was able to backhand the rebound into the net to put Springfield ahead for good.

Aberdeen took 41 shots on goal. Springfield had 25.

Springfield (1-1) continues play in the NAHL Showcase Thursday against the Bismarck Bobcats at 4 p.m.
