Springfield Falls 3-1 To Fairbanks, Settle For Weekend Split

The Springfield Jr. Blues couldn’t recreate last night’s success as they fell to the Fairbanks Ice Dogs 3-1 tonight.

Springfield started of the scoring tonight at 2:21 of the first period with a goal from forward Ethan Stewart, featuring assists from Fabio Hollenstein and Marcus Walter. The Springfield Jr. Blues held on to their 1-0 lead for the remainder of the first.

The Fairbanks Ice Dogs retaliated at 3:34 of the second period with a goal of their own, tying up this game at 1-1. The game stayed at a tie as the Springfield Jr. Blues finished out the second with some strong penalty kill action.

Fairbanks started off with the first goal of the third, at 9:18, and scored once again at 12:35 to take a 3-1 lead that they held on to.

Juraj Ovecka stopped 28 of 31 Fairbanks shots in net for Springfield.

Your Springfield Jr. Blues will be back home October 27th for their annual “Pink The Rink” game to raise awareness for breast cancer. They will turn the ice pink, and play in special pink jerseys that will be auctioned off to raise funds for breast cancer research.
