Springfield Drops Season Opener 5-3

Shane Haviland’s second goal of the game tied the score for the Springfield Jr. Blues early in the third period. But the Janesville Jets answered with two scores later in the period to take a 5-3 victory over Springfield Saturday night

Haviland opened the scoring on a goal assisted by Zach Tyson and Max Brainin just 5 minutes into the game. After Janesville tied the game at 1, Springfield’s Fletcher Fineman slid the puck past the Jets goaltender with just :02 left in the period for a 2-1 lead.

Janesville was able to reclaim the lead in the second period on 2 straight goals.

Haviland then scored on an assist from Riley Doyon to tie it 3-3 early in the 3rd period, but Janesville answered with 2 goals late to seal the game n favor of the Jets.

Springfield was outshot by Janesville 34-26 for the game. Michael Corson was in goal for Springfield making 30 saves for the home team. Springfield’s next games will be at the NAHL Showcase Wednesday through Saturday in Blaine, Minnesota. They will face the Aberdeen Wings at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday.
