Springfield Completes Sweep of Magicians

Jan 4, 2017

The Springfield Jr. Blues got off to a slow start but showed their resilience by coming back from an early two-goal deficit to defeat the Minnesota Magicians  6-3 on Tuesday night at The Nelson Center.

Springfield faced an early test as Minnesota put up two goals within 1 minute and 31 seconds of each other to jump out to a 2-0 lead. However, the team never gave up and received two goals from  Ryan Leibold and a goal from Max Nylander to take a 3-2 lead into the 1st intermission.

The second period had Springfield firing on all cylinders as they put 27 shots on goal in the period. One shot by Springfield’s Jordan Muzzillo was able to beat Minnesota’s goaltender to push their lead to 4-2.

In the third period, Minnesota was able to cut their deficit to 4-3 with a goal with 12:28 to play. However, both Nylander and Muzzillo found the back of the net in the period to seal the victory for Springfield.

Springfield outshot Minnesota 51-27 on the night. Goaltender Garrett Nieto, who came in relief of Mike Robinson,  earned his first NAHL win by stopping 20 of 21 shots that he faced.

Springfield will be in Minnesota this weekend to face off against the Magicians in their home building. Keep up to date with the games on the Springfield Jr. Blues app!
