Springfield Can’t Hold On, Fall To Magicians In OT

The Springfield Jr. Blues were unable to hang on to their 3 goal lead, falling to the Minnesota Magicians 5-4 in overtime on Thursday night at the Richfield Ice Arena in Minnesota.

Springfield led 3-0 after one period Thursday, but they were outscored 3-1 in the second period before the Magicians’  tied it 4-4 at 6 minutes 47 seconds into the third period.

Fletcher Fineman, Ethan Stewart and Shane Haviland scored first-period goals for Springfield, with Fineman’s coming on a power play. Marcus Walter and Stewart assisted on Fineman’s goal, while Fabio Hollenstein assisted Stewarts first goal. Haviland’s goal, at the 15:38 mark, was unassisted.

Stewart scored again to give Springfield a 4-1 lead early in the second period, with Walter and Bradley Marek getting assists. But that was the end of the scoring for Springfield, as they conceded the next 4 goals, including the game winner with just 7 seconds left in overtime.

Springfield outshot the Magicians 37-36 with goaltender Evan Fear taking the overtime loss, stopping 31 of 36 shots on goal.

Springfield will look to avenge their defeat tonight, taking on Minnesota at 7:15pm. Fans can head to Cooper’s AlleySide to watch the game live on TV!
