Blues Play Physical But Fall Short

       The Jr. Blues opened up their three game weekend with a hard fought loss to the Janesville Jets Friday night. The speedy, Jets struck first, as Ross Mauermann converted on a Springfield penalty. Five minutes later, Pijus Rulevicius capitalized on another power-play opportunity. Blues’ goalie Reid Mimmack was replaced by Andrew Martin after the Jets tallied their second goal. Springfield’s Stewart Bell fought Jet’s Pijus Rulevicius with 3:13 left in the period. Rulevicius was given a game ejection after throwing Bell’s head to the ice as officials were breaking up the altercation.

        Ross Andersen gave the Blues a sign of hope, when he sent a shot past goalie David Jacobson. Springfield was penalized for eight minutes during the second period, but the Jets were unable to convert on any of their power plays. Ross Pavek finished up the period, giving the Jets a 3-1 lead. The Jets edged Springfield in shooting 8-7. Janesville closed out the game scoring one last power play goal to beat the Blues 4-1. Blues’ goalie Andrew Martin made 17 saves.
